Materials
Description
Laboratory and field activities related to Mechanical Engineering and Sciences, including materials characterization, development, fabrication, measurement techniques and testing.
Lines of Research
- Characterization and Behavior of Materials and Structures
Experimental measurement of parameters and their correlation with different material properties:
- structural properties: evaluating the intrinsic characteristics of materials and microstructure;
- mechanical properties: evaluating mechanical and rheological characteristics and properties of metals, polymers, biopolymers, bitumen, rock, soils, hydraulic concrete, composites and ceramics;
- electronic properties: evaluating electronic transport characteristics of materials;
- magnetic properties: evaluating characteristics involving magnetic interactions;
- chemical properties: evaluating the interaction between materials due to their chemical composition and the formation of new compounds.
- Development of New Materials
Development of polymers, ceramics, metals, composites, asphaltic, synthetic and organic mixtures; study of the preparation of thin film materials; obtaining biopolymers and biocompatible materials; obtaining nanostructured materials and nanoscale structures; surface treatment and modification of solids; characterization of mechanical, physicochemical and structural properties of polymers, ceramics, metals and composites.
