Cooperation and Exchange
UFSC has a long-standing tradition of exchange programs with international institutions, supported institutionally by the Office of International Relations (SINTER). Through SINTER, UFSC maintains agreements with various countries, which can be consulted on the office’s official website (www.sinter.ufsc.br).
Furthermore, it is important to highlight that several permanent Pós-ECM faculty members have completed graduate studies and postdoctoral fellowships at leading universities and research centers/institutes abroad, maintaining ongoing collaboration with research groups at these institutions, as evidenced in their Lattes CVs.
Additionally, continuous initiatives by both the Program coordinators and its faculty members have enabled the establishment of important international partnerships through exchanges, scientific collaborations, and even co-supervision arrangements within the scope of double degree programs. In this context, among the most significant actions already implemented and currently underway in the Pós-ECM, the following stand out:
- Co-supervision agreement within the scope of a double degree program, established with the Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI), Germany, as part of the Master’s Program in Automotive Engineering. Since September 2017, two Pós-ECM students have been conducting part of their master’s activities at this institution, with dissertation defenses scheduled for the end of 2018 or beginning of 2019, within the 24-month timeframe;
- Research exchange agreement with the Technische Eindhoven Universiteit (TU/e), Netherlands, established in December/January 2016/2017, under which joint research with Pós-ECM faculty has been developed, including the potential implementation of a co-supervision program in the near future;
- Research exchange agreement with the Institut Français des Sciences et Technologies des Transports, de l’Aménagement et des Réseaux (IFSTTAR), France, established in 2017, for the development of research in various technological areas, such as pavement techniques and weigh-in-motion systems.
It is also worth highlighting the facilitation of faculty exchanges for course instruction between the Pós-ECM and the University of Tokyo, Japan, allowing students to transfer credits for courses taken at both institutions – a practice similar to that already implemented in UFSC’s undergraduate Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering program at the Joinville Campus. Currently, UFSC maintains an agreement with the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences of the University of Tokyo (GSFS-UTokyo), Japan.
The participation of Dr. Rodolfo Trentin Gonçalves, a researcher at GSFS-UTokyo, in the research project on the VIV phenomenon in SLWRs exemplifies this collaboration. Moreover, this agreement has annually provided internship opportunities for UFSC Joinville students. Pós-ECM student Fredi Cenci, for instance, began an internship at UTokyo in November 2018.
