THESIS DEFENSE PROCEDURE
1 – The Chair (advisor) opens the defense session and explains the procedure.
2 – The student has up to 50 minutes to present their thesis.
3 – The student is questioned by the committee.
4 – The Chair presents final remarks.
5 – The audience may ask questions.
6 – The committee meets privately to deliberate on the approval or rejection of the thesis.
7 – The student prepares the minutes, collects digital signatures, and sends them to the Graduate Office email (ppgecm@contato.ufsc.br).
MINUTES TEMPLATE
The thesis title in the minutes must match the title stated in the committee appointment order. Any title change must be included on the second page of the minutes under “Modifications required by the committee” (include the new title decided by the committee).
Thesis Defense Minutes – online/in-person – collect electronic signatures from all members. External members without digital signatures may have their signatures replaced by the Program Coordinator’s.
CAPES Committee Form (thesis only) – must be completed, digitally signed, and sent to the Graduate Office along with the minutes.
According to Article 71 of Normative Resolution No. 154/2021/CUn, the student, the chair, and the committee members may participate in the defense through real-time audio and video systems. In this case, it is recommended that the student keep a recording of the defense as evidence in case of judicial proceedings.
